As people made their way through Modernbook Gallery, you could hear them say “Newton’s Merlot is unlike any other” or “That’s John Prager from Prager Port over there! Have you tried his white port? It’s beautiful.” And on occasion you would hear “I can’t keep up!”
The sound of a saxophone lingered in the background and you could hear the winemakers’ enthusiasm in conversations all over the room. And as people made their way upstairs, they found more excitement in having a picture taken by Beata Pevny behind a magical (and large sized) heart.
You always had a piece of Godiva chocolate in one hand, and a glass of wine in the other. We sipped it, we swirled it and we shared it with friends.
Thank you to our participating wineries: Prager Winery and Port Works, Radee Wines, Rimon Wine, Cannonball, B.R. Cohn, Hagafen Wines and Newton Vineyards. Thank you Godiva Chocolatier. This event also raised funds for United Prosperity. Thank you to Kjarni Organic Perfumes for your donation. Thank you to Modernbook Gallery for hosting Cupid’s Divine Wines.
Thank you to our 100 guests on the eve of February 11th. We hoped you enjoyed. See you at our Organic & Sustainable wine event!
When you browse the deeply sensual profile pictures of Beata Pevny’s online portfolio, you drift off to a place of romance, sensuality and desire. Pictures of old movies and memories of the Victorian setting of a novel you read long ago, float through your mind. You are in red.
Few things can provoke such feelings and it may be why Valentine’s Day seems more than appropriate a time to ignite such sentiments of lust and divinity. When you browse Beata’s Film Noir Fashion Stills, you have a sense that sensuality is an essential part of life, in a way that it seems useless to live without it. An African woman in silver silk and pearls, the mysterious purpose of a woman with a pistol, the focused and angered look of another behind the wheel. You can’t help but wonder, which part of me embraces this sort of hidden self?
Beata captures the mystery and sensuality of people in her photographic art. It seems very fitting that the artist herself will be at Modernbook Gallery, Thursday, February 11th to capture guests in one of the most sensual experiences of all: wine tasting.
Cupid’s Divine Wines present photographer Beata Pevny at her best, in the season of love this February.

We have 7 wineries pouring at the event. Newton Vineyards and B.R. Cohn are some of Napa’s premium wine makers and they both will be pouring beautiful red and white wines. Rimon Wines are dessert wines made from pomegranate. Radee wines are made by a Canadian ice wine maker in Thailand. They use mangosteen, pineapple and passion fruit to make incredible wines. Hagafen makes a late harvest wine to die for! Prager Winery and Port Works, well, they are California’s neighborhood port wine makers. And Cannonball makes the coolest, easiest Cabernet Sauvignon in California!
On top of all that, Godiva Chocolatier is bringing over 300 pieces of divine and succulent chocolates! Have you ever tried their gingerbread truffle chocolate? It rocks the pallet!
We have The Scott Hanan Quartet whose swinging music will be setting the mood. A special guest on vocals who will be doing a few classic jazz tunes to add to the fun!
Whilst pleasing your pallet with wine and chocolate and your ears with swinging tunes, your eyes will love the art work of Holly Roberts and Charles Grogg that will be on display at Moderbook Gallery.
Tickets are $35 in advance online.
We hope you and your friends can join us!
Cheers, salute, santé!

At our last event, tasters could not believe how diverse and wonderful the world of dessert wine actually is! Our guests experienced Henry of Pelham’s ice wines from Canada and discovered that California’s very own Swanson Vineyards makes an ice wine that is to die for! Others were surprised to find that it is easy to reset your sweet pallet with a tasting of a red wine like Cannonball’s Cabernet Sauvignon. Hagafen Cellars and Baton Wines shared their Late Harvest Rieslings which all agree were a hit. Not to mention the dessert wines from Radee and Rimon, made of tropical fruits and pomegranates respectively!
And for that same reason, we are throwing another wine extravaganza in Palo Alto to prepare you for Valentine’s Day.
We expect tickets to sell out fast… on your marks, get set…
We have been getting lots of questions about ice wine. Most know that it is a dessert wine, but the appreciation for ice wine comes from knowing how it is made.
Ice wine grapes left on the vine long after harvest season to freeze into winter temperatures. The grapes are hand picked in the middle of the night, at a temperature of about -8 Celsius (17 degrees Fahrenheit) and the brave souls that pick the grapes usually have to make their way through lots of snow.
Since the grapes are frozen when pressed and have had a longer time to ferment on the vine, only droplets of juice are salvaged from each grape. The juice is very sweet, almost syrup-like. Only three countries typically produce ice wine: Austria, Germany and Canada. Canada is the largest producer of ice wine today.
Ice wine is more expensive than other wines and comes in smaller bottles because of the challenging production and the small amount that can actually be produced. So next time you have ice wine, think of the courageous troops of people in snowsuits who set out at lonely hours of the night solely for your enjoyment. Cheers!
The Chinese are crazy about Ice Wine and they are about to prove it.
With the help of Canada, China will be producing Ice Wine in no time. They have set up a partnership with Canadian wine maker Aolos to help them build the world’s largest ice wine estate. Check out the full story here.
Vineland Estates’ wine maker Allan Schmidt recently discovered that a Chinese company has been selling fake ice wine with his label on the bottle.
The Canadian wine maker has made an appeal for a law-suit in China which will not be granted until 2011. More on this story here.
It seems we’re not the only ones talking about Canadian wines.
Gary Vaynerchuck from Wine Library TV was recently in Toronto and filmed a tasting from his hotel room in Toronto.
Watch Gary talked about what Canada is offering in viticulture. Come find out for yourself at our upcoming Canadian Wine Tasting in San Francisco.
